Earth Day

These are my favorite flowers in my front yard. I planted them last year and was so pleased to see them come back this year. Their color is amazing and I feel happy every time I see them. We spent our day talking about caring for our Earth that provides for us in so many ways. When I was young my Father would constantly say "don't stand there with the refrigerator open" or "shut the water off when you brush your teeth." That many years ago he was aware and actively being earth friendly. I was annoyed by it when I was younger, because my world didn't go far beyond myself then. I am grateful that he planted that seed. I find myself now saying the same things to my boys.(big one & littles) Along with many other reminders :) It makes me proud to hear my four year old reminding his father or brother to turn things off. If I can continue to instill those thoughts in my boys hopefully they will continue their grandfathers quest in their lives with their children and we will all have made a difference together. If everyone would just do their part, all those parts would really make a big impact. Sometimes I get frustrated with people that think raising kids is one track. There are so many things that we need to teach our children outside of please/thank you and ABC's & 123's. Oh I could go on and on, but not today. We spent the day outside playing, walking, and working in the yard. We committed to doing some new things around our house (like a rain barrel) and recommitted to keeping up or doing better with our Eco-friendly ways. We also visited our awesome family friendly chiropractor Dr. Byrd at www.chiro4health.us Every patient left the office with a energy star bulb and a good little hand out. I love doing business with good people. I hope everyone had a great day! These pictures are mostly for my sisters enjoyment. These were part of the VW caravan we saw last weekend on our ride home. You can see the vintage 7-up cooler on the roof rack of the bug. I was jibber-jabbering about wishing I could paint the trees like Bob Ross and didn't see them until we were right next to them. I wish I could have gotten my camera out quicker and got the rest of them. www.onboardfabrics.com has the best VW fabric along with several others I'd love to have. Laurice you NEED that fabric :)

Tomorrows plan is to sew, sew, sew! The beige flower is for a dress, the green flower a scarf or shirt, the polka dot with ribbon a bed for CoCo and I'm still thinking about the other two. The green is retro salt and pepper shakers, so cute! I am thinking an apron. We have had runny noses from the pollen and I am going to repurpose some old shirts into some handkerchiefs that are a little more masculine than my flowered/embroidered ones for the boys.

Sunday Fun

The Rome Braves are the minor league Braves in our area. The boys walked the field with their baseball team and ate so much sugar it will take them days to come down from it. Once again we have a great team with super players and fun parents. Bubba and Daddy

Hello to all my fans! Thank you, thank you very much.
Matthew and his buddies.
Me and my buddy.

Busy Days of Spring

I know it has been a few days, we have been going, going.........gone. One thing I have found through starting this blog is that I love to take photos. Good at it.... no, but I'll figure it out and get better at it like everything else. So I have several to share with you. Max playing third.
It amazes me the positions kids are able to sleep in. Three sleepy heads.

Couldn't be any cuter. Beautiful tree in the Brusters parking lot. Gotta love that after baseball game

ice cream!

Last week I got to spend some time with some of the ladies from Joey's side of the family. It was a great day filled with lots of fun girl stuff and great conversations. ( Hi Susie, we need to get together for our crafting time.) My to do list for this week is growing and growing. I need to get my house back in order first. We still have a circus to work on and several craft projects that are in the works. I haven't done anything crafty for a few days and the stress build up is getting to me. I am going to try to combine the two and craft our way to a fabulous circus.

Let it grow, Let it grow, Let it grow

Breakfast of champions.....mint tea, WHO bread w/ apple butter, and potato soup with corn & curry powder. I think labeling things breakfast/lunch/dinner/snack food is kinda silly.
Fun in the mail. Quilt squares.
We planted herbs, flower, and veggies today. Grow little seeds, grow. We are enjoying the warm temps and beautiful sunshine that spring is gifting us, but it's hard to come back inside and do chores. A rainy day here and there will help me keep up and give the boys some down time. The pollen has left a yellow blanket on everything outside. A little rain will help with that also. I think I will wait a few more days to do a rain dance though. The flowers are so bright and pretty. As for our circus, we did some looking online and in books to start putting our costumes together. He decided that CoCo is going to be our trapeze artist. Also, somebody needs to learn to juggle. Oh brother.

My Sweet Boy

Oh, I just love being Mommy. His hands and thoughts are so sweet. I always get a flower when we go outside. We went downtown today to go to the Tea Cottage and as we walked hand in hand down the street he decided that we should have a circus at our house. Who will be what, I asked? Right off the bat he says, Daddy will be the big guy that lifts weights and Max will be the magician. Okay. And what will I be? Well, you will be the clown. :) And what will you be? I will be the cheerleader, er um (head shaking back and forth) no, I will be the......... what will I be again? (laughing) The ring leader. Yah! The ring leader! So our plans for the week will be to put together our circus. I'll keep you updated. He's so fun to be with :)

Our Monday

Back to school for Max, work for Joey, and some alone time for Mommy and Matthew. We cuddled in Daddy's chair and read stories after we had breakfast together. We filled our bird feeders and put out our new squirrel feeder. Both boys helped me label our sticks for our planting we will do this week.

It was cold and wet here today, a perfect day for POTATO SOUP!!!!! I peeled and chopped, Matthew put the potatoes in the big bowl and Max sauteed the onions. It tasted wonderful. We used 10 pounds of potatoes so we will have plenty of leftovers for lunch this week. I like to add corn and curry powder, corn and ham, or haddock and dill to change up the leftovers. We will all go to sleep with warm, full tummies tonight. Grateful.

Spring Break part 2

Camping

The boys loved the bumper beds. (as Matthew calls them) We opted for a cabin after all of the storms and tornado warnings last week. It was so cute and cozy. I could live there if it only had a bathroom. We had drawing and coloring supplies, beads, lots of books, Sorry & Clue, crossword puzzles, and cards to keep busy during the rain. And a little something for Mommy to enjoy while sitting at the lake. Great Blue Heron- We had fun checking off some new birds in our Georgia Birds book. There were SOOOO many turtles!

They visited with us several times a day.

Wonder why????

So cute!!!

GeeGee and Mike came to stay with us for the last two nights.
We had fun and a lot of laughs.

Camping is a great family activity and affordable vacation. There are things to explore and learn that your children would not experience at a hotel when you are going and doing. Everything is a group effort and children learn that simplicity can be a good thing. Show your children the beauty of nature. *Remember to be kind to our environment when you are camping by being responsible with your waste and using Earth friendly products including your dish liquid.* It was a good refresher this season to get ready for our Ohio trip in June. We are all excited about going. I have got to start putting my lists together soon. It's going to take some creative packing to fit everything for the entire eight days in the truck. I love a challenge.

Spring Break - part 1

Our journey started with dinner at Yoders in Montezuma. There is a small Amish/Mennonite community there. I loved the Amish as a little girl and I admire their tradition and simplicity as an adult, not to mention their domestic abilities. Those women can cook, bake, can, garden, sew, quilt, and more like no ones business. Our dinner was oh so good. We shopped in the gift shop and also in Yoders general store. The hot mix, blueberry jelly, and apple butter went so well with my WHO bread. (recipe to come) We had cookies from the bakery and they were by far the best peanut butter cookies I have ever had. I picked up a few treats and cookbook from the stores.

Welcome to Us

I promise this will be all of the websites, recipes, pictures, updates, and everything else that I have been promising everyone...... in time. I have come to realize this is probably the easiest way (okay, the only way) to keep up with everyone. I enjoy reading other peoples blogs and have learned so much from them. Friends and family know that pink and potatoes are my favorites. To anyone that happens by pink is pretty and feminine and nothing beats a BIG bowl of homemade potato soup. Preparing it and eating it is good for the spirit. Joey and the boys love it too! Being a mom is the most wonderful thing. Oh...... I just love it! So there you have it, Pink Potato Mommy. Some days are more interesting than others, but everyday is filled with passion. I do what I love, what I believe in, what being a woman naturally leads me to.
